Our Story

Fellowship Baptist Church was started in 1988 by Rev. R. H. Galbraith. It was a mission of Parkdale Baptist Church and began with a core of approximately 40 people.

Prayer meetings started in the summer to determine the interest of people in the area and the first Sunday service was held at A. Y. Jackson Secondary School on September 11, 1988.

We were officially organized and recognized by the Fellowship of Evangelical Baptist Churches of Canada in 1989.

Pastor Colin McKenzie and his wife Mary, along with their three children, moved to Kanata on May 1, 1989. Colin is a graduate of Central Baptist Seminary. He was also in secular work for 15 years before entering the ministry. Mary is a graduate of Emmanuel Bible College and worked in a variety of companies until their children were born.

The Ottawa Valley Association of Fellowship Baptist churches (OVA) was also very much a part of our beginnings. For the first two years more than half the pastor's support was provided by individuals in OVA churches. In 1989, property was purchased through the help of interest-free loans and gifts from individuals and churches as well as from the OVA and the FEBCC. Then in 1996, many came to a work bee in the construction of the building at 1078 Klondike Road.

Since our beginning we have more than doubled our attendance. We are diverse in our ages, cultures, vocations, abilities and interests. We are united in our desire to show God's love. His love is demonstrated most clearly through the Good News of Jesus. It is our foundation for ministry.

We desire to be a disciple-making church in obedience to Jesus' Great Commission. (Matthew 28:19,20) We continue to build on that Firm Foundation.
